Greater St. Louis Flower Growers Association (GSLFGA)

Growing Together Since 1946.

Mission

Offer the membership a unified platform for sharing information, educational opportunities and fellowship to advance the quality and prosperity of the metropolitan St. Louis professional floriculture community.

Purpose

Provide a forum for sharing and discussing common challenges and concerns associated with the profession of growing floricultural greenhouse crops. The Association supports the educational needs of growers of greenhouse crops by facilitating educational programs regarding current growing techniques.

History and Overview

Established in 1946 by a group of 10 local commercial greenhouse growers who specialized in the growing of cut flowers and potted floriculture crops. This group of growers initially organized the Association for the purpose of creating a buying co-op, requiring each of the founders to invest $100. After World War II, supplies were scarce and the growers felt such a buying group was necessary to procure materials necessary to produce a crop. The organization today exists exclusively for sharing knowledge and consists of professionals representing such businesses as wholesale production greenhouses, retail garden centers and allied suppliers of horticultural products and services. The association currently consists of over 40 active members located in the St. Louis bi-state region.
